A church library is a dynamic entity. Changes are occurring to the collection, the facility, and its operations on a frequent basis. Communicating those updates to the world requires a central mechanism for documenting items of interest as they occur. We have chosen to use a weblog, or blog for short, as the medium to convey library news to anyone who is interested.
For those not familiar with them, a blog is a type of message board located at a specific site on the Internet where update messages are posted in chronological order and become available to the world as soon as the posting occurs. Blogs also feature a mechanism called feeds. By subscribing to a blog feed, one can be notified about a blog update, and thus up-to-date library news, as it occurs. Not only do blogs inform, but they also provide the ability to comment. Blog readers are able to post comments back to messages that have been posted. This provides a two-way level of communication. Library news is posted to the blog and readers are able to comment back on the news they have read. Reader comments can provide valuable feedback through validation and alternative viewpoints which can enhance the overall operation of the church library.
